There are many unique stores and restaurants in the shopping district. The characteristics of each store or restaurant is included. (in Japanese)
Kappabashi-Hondori is a town of "Kappa"s (water imps).
Located near the Sougen Temple (known as "The Kappa Temple") , kappas can be located everywhere on this shopping street.
"The Downtown Star Festival" (Shitamachi Tanabata Matsuri) is held on Kappabashi-Hondori.
The festival takes place every year, on the weekend closest to July 7th. It is held on Kappabash-Hondori (Kappabashi Street) which extends 1.2km east to west from Ueno Station, Iritani Exit to the Tsukuba Express, Asakusa Station.
Both sides of the street all the way from Ueno to Asakusa are decorated with "Tanabata Kazari"(Star Festival Decorations"). In important places, "Ootake"(Large Bamboo Shoots) are marvelously decorated. During the weekends, there are parades, street exhibitions and performances.
